Fascinating Non-fiction!

After the Dinosaurs, James Shooter. This marvelously descriptive book highlights Cenozoic life and introduces us to fantastic creatures which rarely get attention: Thylacosmilus, the marsupial sabertooth, Uintotherium and Moropus, amazing ungulates, Diatryma, the thunderbird, and a host of truly amazing creatures. This is a "must have"!

Hardcover $8.05 (10%, $0.90, off retail!)

"Bill Nye the Science Guy - Dinosaurs, those Big Boneheads" VHS video. A truly entertaining way to learn about both geology and paleontology. A wide range of ages will enjoy this: I'd guess ages 3 through 14. Cool experiments, music and earth- and dino-facts all in a light-hearted and very effective presentation. Gotta have it!

VHS video $11.69 (10%, $1.30, off retail!)

Creatures of the Past, Cecilia Fitzsimons. For young teens and sharp pre-teens. The lucky reader of this gem will time-travel from the Age of Fish (and what "fish" these were!) through the time of the dinosaurs and into the Age of Mammals. Most such books fill their pages with dinosaurs everyone has seen before. But Fitzsimons goes into fascinating detail on later species (of the Cenozoic). These are as diverse and fantastic as dinos! Without question, you’ve gotta have this one!

Handsome library edition $24.26

Paperback $5.35 (10%, $0.60, off retail!)

Dinosaur!, David Norman. Focusing on clues from teeth, bones, tracks, eggs, feet and other fossil evidence, this enthralling text will hold children's and young teen's attention. Well illustrated with interesting photos and dynamic artwork.

"Dinosaur!" VHS video series, Narrated by Walter Cronkite. Kids to Teens. (Adults will love it but will not admit it!) Among the best paleontological series ever made. Covers the Mesozoic and the fascinating paleontologists who gave us our knowledge of it. The animation is rad!

Birth of a Legend VHS video $19.99

Fossil Rush/Tale of a Bone VHS video $17.99

Giant Birds VHS video $19.99

Dinosaur Babies, (A National Geographic Action Book), Jennifer Kirkpatrick. This book is an exciting treasure for your first & second grader to read or for reading to younger kids. The action-oriented yet not-too-scary illustrations by Peter Barrett are in near-realistic style and absolutely captivating. Knowledge is effectively imparted using size comparisons with familiar objects and situations which relate to parent-child relationships. Dinosaur Babies is fact-filled and clear, yet enable the young imagination to experience life in the Mesozoic.

Hardcover $14.40 (10%, $1.60, off retail!)

The Dinosaur and Other Prehistoric Animal Fact Finder, Dr. Michael Benton. This is a bold project: An alphabetized, illustrated reference of the major prehistoric species. All broad-scope references have a few errors and this is no exception: Phorusrhacos was at least twice the height of that illustrated and there is no mention of the discovery of hair on pterosaurs (though they were not mammals). Still, this is an absolutely essential reference illuminating important species other books ignore and so well-written that you will not want to set it down!

A Look Inside Dinosaurs, Neil Clark. For young teens and, if helped or read to, grade schoolers. A marvelous guide to the anatomy and even behavior of dinos! This durable volume has cut pages, like layers of dino skin, so you can see inside the creatures! The Macmillan Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals, Dougal Dixon et al. Lavishly illustrated, this plain-English reference is fun enough to read straight through! It covers more than 600 extinct species over the last half billion years of life! It There are a few technical flaws, such as an inaccurate Thylacoleo and a few important species left out. But on the whole, it is an extremely useful and fascinating imagination-sparker and an indispensable reference!

"The Videosaurus series" VHS, Narrated and starring Gary Owens and Eric Boardman. A very fun series of shorts.
